Kelly Broughton

Kelly Broughton

Kelly started riding at the age of 12, she started showing at the age of 13 in local open and 4-H shows. She had great success for the 3 years with a variety of horses. At the age of 16 she started showing local quarter horse. Over the years she has worked with a variety of different trainers and is now focusing on polishing her skills in many different disciplines. She started out showing in the youth and novice all around. Then purchased a new mare from Owner of PRINCIPLE INVESTMENT Walt Downer, little did she know years down the road this simple transaction would help her reach her ultimate goal. She showed MS CHOCOLATEPRINCIPLE in NY and Canada in the western pleasure and horsemanship.

Feeling the need to push herself more and reach higher she decided to purchase a new horse that she could compete on a national level with and retired MS CHOCOLATEPRINCIPLE to the broodmare and that had been growing little by little. She then went under the guidance of Eric Anderson and hauled nationally for the novice amateur western pleasure with BR ZIPPO. She was very successful in the national quarter horse circuit with BR ZIPPO with many circuit championships and ROM's in the year. After taking a small break for school she returned to the show ring with some of the foals that her and her family had bred over the years. During her time in college Ms. Chocolateprinciple had given birth to a colt in 2005 by Gucci Only. He was beautiful shade of black with lots of chrome(white). In 2007, she and this pretty black colt named TOO HOT TO BE HUMBLE went under the guidance of Dan & Jill Bergstresser. For a year, they got him broke and somewhere along the line Jill decided that he would be a fabulous Showmanship horse for Kelly and that would give us something to work towards. In the beginning of 2008, their first show was at the Florida gold coast and they won! We had a great show. The rest of the year that followed was all the same multiple wins that earned them over 100 points in the Novice Amateur Showmanship!

Kelly set her sights high and decided that she wanted to take a chance at winning the All American Quarter Horse Congress. So they hauled everywhere they could to prepare for the Congress. When Congress time rolled around there were 135 entries in her class and with a 3year old that had never been to a place like the congress. This goal might have been seen as unattainable to most. But Kelly pushed on and it all payed off, they were named the 2008 Novice Amateur Showmanship Champions. Winning the congress was always a goal of hers but doing it with a foal that she had bred and raised made it that much better. She had now decided to conquer some other disciplines in April of 2009 she met the next horse she would show LAST TO BE INVITED. Thanks to Theresa Wills assistant to Jeff Cochran she purchased LAST TO BE INVITED from Jeff and JR Reichert. She showed LAST TO BE INVITED in 2009 to achieve many wins and circuit championships in Novice Amateur HUS. In 2010 "Lilly" and Kelly will be again competing in Nov. Am. HUS in addition to Nov. Am. Hunt seat Eq. And the amateur showmanship. She also will be showing DO U KNOW A GOOD BAR in the Non-pro and amateur Western pleasure under the guidance of Jeff Cochran. DO U KNOW A GOOD BAR will be making his first appearance at The Reichert Pleasure Celebration in August.
